Along with individualised spelling sorts, we are working on specific comprehension skills. Maths We are working on learning to tell time to 5 minutes. This tricky, please help to review this with your child at home. Next, we will be learning about the concept of multiplication. We will be working with arrays (looking at rows and columns) and 'groups of' to find the total. This provided the students with the foundations to begin more formal multiplication next year. UOI As part of the final project for our current UOI, each student will be researching one of the planets. Your child should be able to complete this task at home independently. This task will be sent home tomorrow with the children and they will each have their own recording sheets. In working out coverage for Mrs. Stefan's Maternity Leave which begins June 4, Grades 1 and 2 will be combined for Unit Of Inquiry lessons for the remainder of the school year. To begin with, Mrs. Stafan and I will be team teaching the unit. Come June, I will continue teaching UOI to both classes. The classes will begin their new unit this week. During the last week of school, Grades 1 and 2 will be combined for all lessons. I will be teaching both classes and we will be following the Grade 2 specials schedule. Maths

Please work with your child at home to develop their fluency and confidence with their addition and subtraction facts to 20. UOI We are finishing up our Sharing The Planet unit. The learners have engaged in research about a habitat of their choice. They have developed an understanding of it's location and climate and plants and animals that live there. We have recently looked at threats to habitats and are exploring our responsibilities when interacting with habitats. Literacy We are working on a variety of comprehension related skills and looking carefully at a text to answer questions. Swimming Just a reminder of dates for swimming lessons. We will officially begin our next UOI, Who We Are, this week. The Central Idea is, 'individual's choices can impact their well-being'. The Lines Of Inquiry will explore nutrition, hygiene, germs, responsibility and physical activity. The learners will draw on the data they have collected about their diet and sleep habits and will be able to reflect on this. They will be keeping track of their responsibilities (at home and at school) and also keeping an activity log. In this activity log then can choose to practice a new skill, set a goal to improve their current skill level in an area, or simply record a selection of different activities they do that helps to keep them physically active. Please support your child to develop their skills of responsibility within the context of your home and family life and encourage them to be active each day. Maths In Maths we are continuing with our data and graphing unit. The class are currently designing their own survey which they will conduct and later graph. Please work with your child at home on developing their fluency of addition and subtraction facts within 20. Reminders: Eishalle Field Trip Wednesday, March 21 - Students will walk to the Eishalle, arriving at 9:00 am and will skate until 10:30 am. We will then walk back to school in time for lunch. Students are reminded to bring their helmets to school that morning. Please return the money and signed permission slip by March 15th. We will start our next UOI, How We Express Ourselves, next week. As part of this unit, the students will be looking at making healthy choices to look after their bodies as well as taking responsibility for completing age-appropriate tasks.
The students will be brushing their teeth every day after lunch. Please send in a toothbrush, a tube of toothpaste and a cup that can be kept at school for the duration of this unit. These can be sent in this week in preparation for this activity beginning on Monday. For the next week, the children will be recording their sleep (Sleep Tracker) and all of their meals (What's On My Plate). This is for the upcoming UOI. The food log will be added to both at school and at home. The Sleep Tracker data will also be used as part of our current Maths unit on data and graphing. Please help your child fill out these recording sheets daily.
Please check your child's homework folder daily. While it is important the children take responsibility in showing you their folder, they are young and this sometimes doesn't happen. |
